After seven seasons, American Idol is getting a new judge. Fox has announced Grammy-nominated songwriter and former The One: Making a Music Star judge herself Kara DioGuardi will serve as Idol's new fourth judge and join Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson as a regular member of the show's eighth-season judging panel.

"We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara DioGuardi to the judges' table," Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

Kara DioGuardi, a Grammy-winning producer-songwriter, has written top 40 hits for pop stars including Kelly Clarkson and the Pussycat Dolls. And although her name might not be as familiar as the prolific Diane Warren and David Foster, artists such as Celine Dion and Gwen Stefani have relied on her songs for years.

DioGuardi will sit alongside Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson at the judges’ table and use her background as an award-winning songwriter and producer to praise or critique the wannabe hopefuls throughout the eighth season of the competition, which begins in January.

Pop Idol, the since-canceled British reality competition American Idol was based on, featured four judges (one of whom was Cowell) during both its seasons, which aired in 2002 and 2003. DioGuardi's addition represents the completion of a similar plan for American Idol, according to the show's producers.

People magazine has published the first photo of the latest additions to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's every-growing family. The released cover cover of its upcoming issue, features twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon with their parents. Word is that the issue, which hits newsstands on Monday, contains a 19-page spread of the couple and their six children.

Some news outlets are reporting that 'People' and 'Hello!' paid a combined $10-11 million for the exclusive photos, which is slightly lower than what was first expected. The magazines would not comment on the figure but did confirm they were told that all proceeds from the sale of the photos would be donated to charity.

Jolie gave birth to the twins on July 12 in Nice, France. There were reports that paparazzi photos of the twins were being offered to various publications, however, those quickly died
down after Brad Pitt threatened to sue if any of them saw the light of day before the exclusive photo shoot hit newsstands.

'The Dark Knight' beat out 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' to hold on to its top spot for the third weekend in a row.

'Dark Knight' earned $43.8 million over the weekend, while the 'Mummy' sequel took second with $42.5 million. 'Mummy' was actually expected to top the box office this weekend with ticket sales of $50 million, but considerably less than expected.

Meanwhile, 'Dark Knight' movie has taken in an estimated $394.9 million in just 17 days and is expected to cross the $400 million mark by either late Monday or Tuesday, on its 18th or 19th day, which would set yet another record. The current fastest to $400 million is 'Shrek 2', which did it over more than double that time -- 43 days.

There is some debate whether the movie can take over the all-time spot, currently held by 'Titanic' at $600.8 million. Many believed the movie will top out at around $480-500 million, but we think it could go higher to become the highest grossing movie of all time. If not, the
movie is all but guaranteed second place. Interestingly, even if it beats 'Titanic' with the numbers, there will definitely be those that say 1997's 'Titanic' earned more factoring in inflation, so the movie may be destined to be in second regardless.

The other new release for the weekend, 'Swing Vote', starring Kevin Costner and Kelsey Grammer, opened miles away with a weak $6.3 million, for sixth spot.

Here are the complete numbers for the box office:

1. The Dark Knight, $43.8 million.
2. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, $42.5 million.
3. Step Brothers, $16.3 million.
4. Mamma Mia!, $13.1 million.
5. Journey to the Center of the Earth, $6.9 million.
6. Swing Vote, $6.3 million.
7. Hancock, $5.2 million.
8. WALL-E, $4.7 million.
9. The X-Files: I Want to Believe, $3.4 million.
10. Space Chimps, $2.8 million.

Christina Applegate is fighting breast cancer, but fortunately the disease was caught early and she expected to make a full recovery.

"Benefitting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening," her publicist, Ame Van Iden, said. "Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery."

Christina's mother also battled both breast and cervical cancer, and she has been an advocate for breast cancer research ever since. She will keep her promise to appear on Sept. 5 with Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron and Meryl Streep at the 'Stand Up to Cancer' telethon, which will be broadcast on ABC, NBC and CBS.

The 36-year-old has been nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role on 'Samantha Who?'. She previously won an Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy
series for her role as Jennifer Aniston's younger sister in 'Friends'.

All indications are that Christina will maintain her regular shooting schedule on 'Samantha Who?' while undergoing treatment.
